Randall Darius Jackson is an American bassist, singer, record producer, businessman and television personality. Jackson began his career in the 1980s as a bassist for a variety of jazz, pop, rock and R&B performers. He moved to work in music production and A&R at Columbia Records and MCA Records. Jackson is best known as a judge of the longest serving American Idol and executive producer of MTV's American Best Dance Crew. In May 2020, Jackson was re-elected as the bassist for Journey after they abruptly separated from former member Ross Valory. Jackson previously played the role on the group's 1986 album Raised on Radio and its tour.
